The autonomous "drone-in-a-box" technology enables multiple daily inspection flights without relying on pilots on site. Powered by a Sunfire Remote 400 propane fuel cell with optional solar integration, it offers months of autonomy and minimal maintenance.


Critical infrastructure facilities require regular inspections, often in remote regions. In the past, expensive aircraft were used for this purpose, causing high costs and environmental pollution.


Today, Ensol Systems Inc. and Chartis Remote Sensing Solutions are introducing a breakthrough solution: fully autonomous "drone-in-a-box" technology. This innovation enables multiple daily inspection flights with automatic self-deployment and landing, eliminating the need for pilots on site. The drones are equipped with a wide range of sensors to perform customized inspections.



What makes this solution special is its energy source. The drones are self-sufficient and powered by a Sunfire Remote 400 propane fuel cell with optional solar integration. It ensures continuous operation by recharging itself and automatically uploading data to the cloud. Transportable on a trailer, the fuel cell offers flexibility in use. Sunfire Fuel Cells GmbH manufactures these state-of-the-art fuel cell generators, which have proven their reliability and efficiency in critical infrastructure. The Sunfire Remote 400 offers a rated output of 350 W and is suitable for a variety of loads, including hybrid configurations with photovoltaics.

These solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) operate reliably at high temperatures, even in harsh conditions, for up to 10,000 hours without maintenance. One such plant is located in Western Canada and enables cost-effective inspection remotely.
