The Sunfire remote propane fuel cells are a mature solution. Since 2014, they have proven their reliable operation even in harsh environmental conditions. The possibility of remote monitoring and control as well as the combinability with photovoltaics for effective power supply in the summer months make this solution the first choice for our customer.
Our customers operate microwave radio stations in the most remote areas of Alaska to provide telephone and broadband Internet services. The stations can only be reached by helicopter, and accessibility is severely limited in winter. The harsh climate with frequent weather changes, temperatures ranging from -30 °C to +35 °C and high humidity posed major challenges for the power supply.
To address these challenges, one of the leading U.S. grid operators selected a long-term solution using Sunfire remote propane fuel cells in 2019. This solution has been proven in harsh environmental conditions since 2014 and offers remote monitoring and control capabilities. It can also be effectively combined with photovoltaics to ensure continuous power supply, especially during the summer months.
Thanks to Sunfire-Remote, fewer service flights were required, as the stations can be remotely controlled and monitored. Commissioning and operation are simple, and power generation is extremely efficient. This resulted in reduced fuel consumption and increased the overall efficiency of the network.
Sunfire-Remote has already delivered a double-digit number of units to provide power to microwave radio stations in Alaska's winter conditions. In the summer, photovoltaic panels take over the power supply. This solution is not only environmentally friendly, but also enables an efficient combination of power generators, which in turn extends the service life of the fuel cells.
